Similar to the Green Mountains of Vermont with so many (more?) State Park trails and campgrounds. Ginge, Holly and I took the ferry across lake Champlain from Charlotte, Vermont to Essex, New York. From the middle of the lake one can view both mountain ranges (east & west). Stunning…

From Essex we headed directly into the Adirondacks’ tree, lake and river-lined back roads. Lemon thyme covered fields, roadside cemeteries, and yards. Several deer and Eagle nests spotted.

Our day driving was lengthened due to a distracted navigator (Holly!!!) who had us drive in circles for two additional hours which left us tired which subsequently put us in a private campground that left much to be desired (crowded and unkempt-so unlike the National and State campgrounds).

Monday July 18 Needless to say, we were anxious to get back into the gorgeous Park roads this morning. First rainy day of trip made the greens POP! Lovely drive through the mountains/park.
I insisted that we stop at Custard’s Last Stand ice cream shop in Long Lake NY because I thought it was frozen custard…duh Nope it’s the owner’s last name! Anyway, the people and ice cream were great!

More photos tomorrow as Wi-Fi is spotty!
